Maarit Murka was born in 1981. She graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2006 and has had her works presented in private and group exhibitions in various countries including France, Romania, Germany, Russia and the United States. Murka paints photorealistic self-portraits, but also uses video in her projects that have a strong conceptual emphasis. Murka actively uses her own self-perception and image and is not afraid of the media. She continuously exposes her self-image to depictions of the body, fears and environment.
