Indrikis Gelzis

Indrikis Gelzis was born in 1988, in Riga, Latvia. He studied at HISK – Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Gent, Belgium and received his BFA and MFA in Visual Communication from the Art Academy of Latvia. The work of Indrikis Gelzisis is born from the tension between instrumental rationality of modern life and the innate desires that drive us, mammals. Seeming abstract but having figurative origins and referring to modernist aesthetics, Gelzis’ works pay homage to modern life as much as they mock it. Somewhere between abstraction and figuration, his works sum up the modern condition of human beings.
