Gildo Bavčević (1979) is a multimedia artist based in Split known for his socially engaged performances and video work. He graduated in 2013 MA Film and Media Arts from the Arts Academy of Split and works with a variety of media (performance, video, film, art performances, multimedia installations, audio projects, and sound design). His topic of predilection is money, its social, psychological and political impacts as well as the distorted behaviours, reactions and relations it generates, both on the global and local, Croatian scales. In one of his most impressive performances entitled Profit vs. Welfare (2012) which he realized in different countries with the local money, Gildo Bavčević is hammering a coin on an anvil until it becomes unrecognizable, a simple and valueless slice of metal, showing the artifice of monetary politics
