Maria Arusoo

Maria Arusoo (b. 1983) is a curator and artist who currently directs the Center for Contemporary Arts Estonia and is the commissioner of the Estonian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Arusoo began curating in 2005, working on an artist-run gallery project in Berlin. She worked as a freelance artist, studio assistant and curator, organizing numerous exhibitions and conferences in Tallinn and London before receiving her current appointment at the Center for Contemporary Arts. Her recent curatorial projects include the exhibition „Greatest Hits” at EKKM (Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia). As part of this exhibition in 2022, six curators of contemporary art from Estonia choose their favourite artwork to exhibit – these are pieces they would either like to experience again or just deem particularly relevant in the current moment. Arusoo also has worked with Estonian National Broadcasting, in a recent collaboration Art of Our Time” is a weekly art program highlighting contemporary Estonian artists. She is also in the curatorial team of Sequences which is an artist run biennial in Reykjavík. The aim of the festival is to produce and present progressive visual art.
