Katrin Kivimaa (b. 1969) is an art historian, cultural critic and translator. Kivimaa currently works as a Senior Researcher in the Institute of Art History and Visual Culture at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Her main focus of research includes feminist art history, Estonian modern and contemporary art, nationalism and art, social art, feminist curating, historiography of Estonian art history, representation of women in art and visual culture. In between 2008 and 2010 she was part of the research team of Gender Check: Femininity and Masculinity in the Art of Eastern Europe in Vienna and Warsaw. She has written extensively about women’s and feminist art in Estonia and is co-editor of a collection of Estonian translations of key texts of feminist art history. She is the author of National and Modern Femininities in Estonian Art, 1850-2000 (in Estonian, 2009), and the editor of Working with Feminism: Curating and Exhibitions in Eastern Europe (2012). In 2009, she was awarded the annual prize for the best single-authored art history monograph in Estonian.
